STREUSEL TOPPING.
All you need to know about this delectable addition!
Streusel is a topping that consists of flour, sugar, and butter that is added to cookies, cakes, muffins and loafs in order to add a great crunch. The ratio is usually the the same amount of sugar and butter while the amount of flour is double that amount. The name streusel originates from the German word, “streuen” which means to scatter, and refers to how it is placed onto of these baked goods. Streusel is often confused with crumble, which uses butter as the base amount, double the amount for flour, and triple the amount for sugar.
HOW TO OPTIMIZE STREUSEL FOR YOUR DESSERTS:
You can create different looks for your product due to the configuration of the streusel. You can make the product more rustic by keeping larger chunks or make it more ferried by separating the streusel into fine bits.
You can also alter the flavor of the streusel by incorporating in spices, herbs, zest, and extracts. Some examples of the most common additions I add in are cinnamon, lavender, lemon zest, and vanilla extract.
You can change the color of the streusel by altering the sugar used. For darker colors, use brown sugar while for lighter colors, use granulated/white sugar.
